We're expanding beyond Europe. Starting today, birdhost customers can deploy managed NetBird VPN instances in Singapore and Australia — bringing low-latency, dedicated VPN infrastructure to the Asia-Pacific region.

Why Singapore and Australia?

Our customers told us: the product is great, but latency from Southeast Asia or Australia to European servers is not. Singapore is one of the most connected cities in the world, with direct submarine cable routes to China, India, Japan and the rest of APAC. Sydney complements this perfectly as a hub for Australia, New Zealand and the wider Pacific region. For teams and offices in these regions, this means significantly faster connections and a better experience.

What's Available

Everything you know from birdhost, now in Singapore and Australia:

  • Dedicated NetBird instance — your own isolated environment, not shared infrastructure
  • ISO 27001 certified data center — enterprise-grade security standards
  • Full management included — 24/7 monitoring, automatic updates, security patches, backups
  • Same flat rate pricing — no per-user fees, no region surcharges
  • All NetBird features — WireGuard mesh VPN, granular access policies, SSO integration, DNS routing, audit events

Four Regions, One Platform

With this launch, our managed NetBird hosting is available in four regions:

Region Location Best For
EU Germany (Nuremberg/Falkenstein) European companies, GDPR compliance
US United States North American teams, US data residency
Asia Singapore APAC teams, Southeast Asian operations
Oceania Sydney, Australia Australian and New Zealand teams

You choose your region when provisioning your instance. Each instance runs exclusively in your selected region — no cross-region data replication, full data residency control.

Multi-Region for Global Teams

If your organization operates across continents, you can provision separate instances per region. A company with offices in Berlin, Singapore and Sydney can run three dedicated NetBird instances — each with optimal latency for local teams.

The flat rate pricing applies per instance, and there are no per-user fees regardless of region. Scale your teams without scaling your costs.

Getting Started

Deploying in Singapore or Australia works exactly the same as any other region:

  1. Sign up at the merkaio portal
  2. Choose your plan (Startup, Business or Enterprise)
  3. Select Germany, United States, Singapore or Australia as your region
  4. Hit deploy — your instance is ready in minutes

Existing customers who want to add an instance in a new region can do so directly through the portal.

What's Next

Singapore and Australia are our first steps into Asia-Pacific. We're evaluating additional locations based on customer demand. If you need a specific region, let us know — we're listening.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where exactly are the data centers?
birdhost uses Hetzner Cloud's Singapore and Sydney (Australia) locations, both operating in ISO 27001 certified colocation facilities (certification held by the colocation operator). Singapore benefits from highly developed network infrastructure and numerous international submarine cable connections. Sydney provides optimal connectivity to Australia, New Zealand and the wider Pacific region.
What regions does birdhost support?
birdhost currently offers eight regions: Germany (Nuremberg/Falkenstein), Netherlands, United States, Canada, Singapore, Japan, Australia (Sydney), and India. All regions use ISO 27001 certified data center infrastructure (certification held by the data center operators).
Can I choose my region when signing up?
Yes. When you create your instance through the merkaio self-service portal, you select your preferred region. Each instance runs exclusively in your chosen region — no data replication across locations.
Is the pricing the same for all regions?
The flat rate structure is the same across all regions. In Germany, the Startup plan starts from €99.90/month, for Singapore and Australia from €119.90/month. All plans are cancellable monthly. There are no per-user fees.
Can I run instances in multiple regions?
Yes. You can provision separate instances in different regions. This is useful for organizations with teams across continents who need low-latency access in each location.
What about GDPR for Singapore or Australia-hosted instances?
Singapore-hosted instances are subject to Singapore's PDPA (Personal Data Protection Act). Australian instances fall under Australia's Privacy Act. For EU customers requiring GDPR compliance, we recommend the Germany region. We can advise on the right setup for your compliance needs.
